Profile
Dr. Stephen Leierer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research with a specialization in Community Agency Counseling. He comes to The University of Memphis from the Rehabilitation Counseling department at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. After earning his Masters in Physical Education from The University of Iowa, he worked as a Peace Corps volunteer at the National Teachers College of Honduras for two years. Using the education and training he received while completing his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Florida State University, Leierer became a tenured faculty member at Louisiana State University.
One of his key roles at Louisiana State was to provide quantitative and methodological research support for students and faculty in the LSU Health Science Center.
Dr. Stephen Leierer has expertise in research design and statistical evaluation of data from surveys, focus groups, marketing research, archival data, field and laboratory experiments. Some of his most recent work includes univariate and multivariate statistical procedures to analyze of discrimination in the workplace, employment and compensation, and educational policies. Because he is skilled at presenting complex ideas to non-experts, he can provide authoritative research and consulting services in statistics to individuals and organizations.
He is currently conducting research on the Strong Interest Inventory, counselor clinical judgments, disability identity, and college career course interventions.
